Perhaps the most visually iconic cocktail, this piece features the Gin Martini surrounded by its most fundamental ingredients in a colourful, contemporary, polygonal style.
The modern form of the Martini was solidified around 1922 when London dry gin and dry vermouth were combined at a ratio of 2:1. Although the cocktail itself only has two main ingredients, gin usually has a minimum of 6 botanicals, the most essential being Juniper. Dry vermouth is similarly infused with many different herbs.
With each gin and vermouth having secret proprietary recipes, it's impossible to know what combination of greenery is in each glass. So, here are 21 of the most common herbs and spices used in both gin and vermouth.
Rather than piles of dried-up seasonings, the delicate flavours of the martini are depicted as the botanicals in bloom.
